A man jumped on the back of a 12-foot long alligator after the reptile snatched his dog in a Central Florida park last week.
The man and his girlfriend were then able to free the canine, saving it from certain death, according to media reports.
The couple were taking the dog for a walk at Riverside Park in Oviedo, Florida when the large gator suddenly jumped out of the water, grabbing the pooch in his mouth, city officials stated.
The man was able to save his dog”s life by jumping on the gator”s back.
“A boyfriend and girlfriend were walking their dog at Riverside Park in the back along the Little Econ River when an alligator came out and snatched it,” city communication manager Lisa McDonald told Fox News.

“According to staff, (not witnessed), the boyfriend jumped on top of the alligator to rescue the dog. They were able to free the animal,” she added.
The dog underwent surgery and has been moved to a University of Florida emergency vet and is expected to recover, WKMG reported.
The city plans to add additional signs to warn park-goers of the dangers of alligators.
Officials said that the alligator measured 12-feet, six-inches long. It was captured and killed.
