Opponents of the judicial overhaul continued their protests Friday, gathering outside of National Unity party chairman MK Benny Gantz”s home in Rosh Ha”ayin and Economy Minister Nir Barkat”s Jerusalem home to protest efforts to reach a compromise agreement.
Some 150 protesters rallied outside of Gantz”s home Friday morning, including reservists from a number of elite IDF units.
The demonstrators condemned negotiations with the government aimed at reaching a compromise on the judicial reform plan, and demanded Opposition lawmakers halt the talks.
“You have no mandate to compromise on democracy,” protesters shouted.
Dozens of protesters gathered outside of Barkat”s home, amid reports Barkat is under consideration as a possible replacement for Defense Minister Yoav Gallant.
Netanyahu announced Sunday night that he had decided to fire Gallant, over the Defense Minister”s public statement Saturday night demanding the judicial overhaul be frozen.
On Monday evening, however, Netanyahu declared that his government is pausing the reforms, halting plans to bring two bills to their final votes in the Knesset.
A day later, negotiations between the Coalition and the Opposition were launched at the President”s Residence.
