Foreign Minister to the President of Cyprus: Blacklist IRGC as a terrorist organization

Two days after the foiling of an attack against Israelis and Jews in Greece, Foreign Minister Eli Cohen met on Thursday with the President of Cyprus, Nikos Christodoulides.
The meeting focused on Iranian terrorism in light of the foiling of the terrorist attack in Greece this week and the foiling of an attack in Cyprus about a year ago.
Cohen asked the Cypriot president to act to include Iran”s Revolutionary Guards Corps on the list of terrorist organizations in his country and in the European Union.
The Foreign Minister also reviewed the relations with the countries which signed onto the Abraham Accords and the possibility of their expansion to other Arab and Muslim countries.
The two also discussed strengthening the relationship between the countries in light of the changes taking place in the areas of regional security and energy.
“Iranian terrorism threatens not only Israel. Two days ago, an Iranian attack was foiled on Greek soil and a year ago an Iranian attack was foiled in Cyprus. The task of all of us is to stop Iranian terrorism and the way to do this is by putting the Revolutionary Guards on the list of terrorist organizations,” Minister Cohen said at the end the meeting.
He added that “strengthening the regional alliance with Cyprus and Greece is in the interest of the three partnerships and regional stability. The development of the economic, tourist and energy ties between Israel and Cyprus can strengthen the excellent relations that exist between the countries and between the peoples already today.”
Cohen”s call for the IRGC to be blacklisted comes several months after reports indicated that the EU is exploring legal options to designate the group as a terrorist organization.
In January, the European Parliament called for the EU to list the IRGC as a terrorist organization, blaming the force for the repression of protesters and the supply of drones to Russia.

A total of 598 members of the parliament voted in favor, while nine voted against and 31 abstained. The vote is non-binding.
German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock has openly said that it is important that the EU blacklist the IRGC as a terrorist organization.
