Airport employee arrested for smuggling Georgians into Israel

An Israel Airports Authority employee and an accomplice were arrested Saturday night on suspicion of illegally smuggling Georgian residents into Israel while receiving thousands of dollars for each person smuggled
The airports authority employee allegedly accompanied the smuggled “tourists” along the route of entry into Israel from the plane, when before they arrived at the passport control station, he met them in the bathroom, where he equipped them with work clothes which made them look like airport employees and led them out to the parking lot in a vehicle.
Tens of thousands of shekels were seized from the suspects, most of them in foreign currencies. The suspects, residents of Lod, will be brought to a court hearing today where the police will request an extension of their detention.
