A high school in the Boston area was defaced with a swastika on Thursday, leading to an investigation by school officials, according to Boston 25 News.
The antisemitic symbol was found drawn on the wall of a boy”s bathroom at Newton High School South in Newton, with Principal Tamara Stras stating that it was created with “with chocolate or a similar substance.”
In a letter to parents, Stras said: “I cannot express the anger and disappointment that we all feel because we have people who are continuing to perpetuate hate in our building.”
Local police and the Anti-Defamation League have been notified in order to help with the investigation. The Jewish Staff Affinity Group has also been contacted to offer support to students.
“I want to assure you that we as a school and district are deeply dedicated to addressing hate and discrimination issues and educating our students to stand up against hate,” Stras said, according to 25 News. “[Newton High School ] South will always strive to be a place where all feel seen, heard, and supported.”
The Boston area has experienced multiple antisemitic incidents since the start of the year.
In January, Police in Swampscott launched an investigation after a swastika was discovered on a sidewalk in the Boston suburb.
The next month, Boston Jewish groups voiced outrage after a video began circulating on social media showing young men leaning against and kicking the New England Holocaust Memorial.
