Six people were injured, one severely and five lightly, late Saturday night on Dov Yosef Street on the outskirts of the Beit Safafa neighborhood in southern Jerusalem, near Gilo.
MDA medics and paramedics administered medical care and took the injured to Hadassah Ein Kerem Hospital. A man around the age of 25 was seriously injured, 3 (ages 19,25, and 50) were moderately injured, and one (aged 30) was lightly injured.
Roy Ben Shoham, an MDA medic who was at the scene, stated: “We quickly arrived at the scene, and we saw five injured people lying on the ground, some on the sidewalk and some in the front yard of a home, they were all fully conscience and were suffering from gunshot wounds. We carried out a quick check-up at the scene, administered initial life-saving medical care, and took them to the hospital, with one in serious condition, three in moderate condition, and one in light condition.”
There is currently high tension in Jerusalem in light of the recent escalation in violence and the deadly wave of terrorism.
Earlier Saturday, Defense Minister Yoav Gallant decided to send IDF soldiers to reinforce Police forces in central Israel.
At the same time, it was decided not to allow entry to Arabs from Judea and Samaria to the Al Aqsa mosque.
In addition, Minister Gallant decided to extend the general lockdown of Judea and Samaria and the closure of the points of entry from the Gaza Strip until the end of the Passover holiday on Wednesday night. The continuation of the lockdown also includes the immediate cancellation of the civilian steps taken for Ramadan and the prevention of entry to workers.
