The Security Cabinet convened for the first time since February this evening (Thursday) following the firing of dozens of rockets at Israel from Lebanon and Gaza on the first day of Passover.
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said at the beginning of the cabinet meeting: “I have made it clear in recent days that our enemies should not misread our situation. The internal debate in Israel will not prevent us from acting against them wherever and whenever it is necessary. We are all, without exception, united in this.”
“As for the aggression against us from the various arenas: we will cripple our enemies and they will pay a price for every act of aggression. Our enemies will discover again that in moments of truth the citizens of Israel stand together and united and support the actions of the IDF and other security forces to protect our country and its citizens,” he added.
According to him, “We have no interest in changing the status quo on the Temple Mount. We are calling for calm and will act firmly against extremists who resort to violence there.”
At least 34 rockets were fired at northern Israel from Lebanon Thursday, following a barrage of seven rockets from the Hamas-ruled Gaza Strip during the Seder Night.
Political sources believe that Israel will respond strongly to the rocket attacks and several possible responses from the army will be presented to the ministers.
