Edelstein on Gallant dismissal: It’s the wrong move at this time

MK Yuli Edelstein (Likud), chairman of the Knesset Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee, attended a conference at Reichman University in Herzliya on Wednesday and criticized Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s decision to fire Defense Minister Yoav Gallant.
Edelstein said that “without getting into the fact that there are enough good and talented people to fit the position of Minister of Defense, with everything that is happening in the IDF and the defense establishment, I think this is a wrong move at this time.”
On the negotiating team that gathered for talks on the judicial at the President’s Residence, Edelstein said, “I was excited yesterday to see the negotiating teams enter the President’s Residence, and it is difficult to say that, after 30 years in the Knesset, I remain na&iumlve. I am not a prophet and I understand the gaps and problems, but I think this is a way to address the symptom.”
The chairman of Yisrael Beytenu, MK Avigdor Liberman, also spoke at the conference and commented on to the option of establishing a constitution.
“It should be understood that there is no option to enact a constitution in the State of Israel without establishing a Zionist coalition without Shas and United Torah Judaism. In general, in my opinion, we will either succeed in separating religion from the state, or in the end we will not have a state,” he said.
The chairman of the Ra”am Party, MK Mansour Abbas, commented on the issue of crime in Arab society and said, “If the State of Israel misses the opportunity to reach out to Arab society in the context of the crime and violence that are rampant in it, it will be a historic miss. In the previous government there was relative success and there was a decrease of at least 15% in the manifestations of violence and then Minister Ben Gvir came along and, in three months, we unfortunately doubled the number of people murdered in Arab society.”
