Jewish actor Ben Savage to run for Congress in California

Jewish actor Ben Savage has launched a campaign to win the California Congressional seat currently held by Rep. Adam Schiff (D-CA).
In an Instagram post to his 1.1 million followers, the “Boy Meets World” star discussed running to replace Schiff, who is campaigning for the state”s Senate seat vacated by retiring Senator Dianne Feinstein (D-CA).
“I am a proud Californian, union member and longtime resident of District 30 who comes from a family of unwavering service to our country and community,” Savage said. “I firmly believe in standing up for what is right, ensuring equality and expanding opportunities for all.”
“I”m running for Congress because it”s time to restore faith in government by offering reasonable, innovative and compassionate solutions to our country”s most pressing issues,” he added.
Savage called for “new and passionate leaders who can help move our country forward.”
“Leaders who want to see the government operating at maximum capacity, unhindered by political divisions and special interests,” he said.

On his website, he said that he was “laser-focused on making every neighborhood and every Angeleno safer.”
His website also mentioned that Savage had family members murdered in the Holocaust, and that he “was well aware of antisemitism growing up.” Savage “takes issue with the rise in antisemitism and hate speech rhetoric, as well as disparaging terms used so loosely in today”s society,” his campaign said.
“Through his experiences, Ben understood how lucky he and his family were to be in America, and how quickly things can change for minority groups,” his campaign added. “He is committed to protecting the safety and well-being of all members of society.”
Savage starred in ABC sitcom “Boy Meets World” from 1993 to 2000.
