Following a deadly terror attack at a gas station near the Jewish town of Eli, Religious Zionism’s MK Tzvi Succot warned that if the wave of terror continues and no military action is taken to stop it, he will not be able to remain in the government.
Speaking to 103 FM Radio, Succot said, “At the end of the day, we have been screaming for months that we need to embark on an operation in northern Samaria. Personally, on every possible stage I spoke on, I said this. You don’t need to be a great genius in order to understand this. In the area of northern Samaria, in the last year and a half, there have been a horrifically massive number of terror incidents, [at a rate of] once or twice a week.”
“‘Mowing this grass’ will never be able to be enough,” Succot added. “Two days ago, there were at least 100 armed terrorists who were firing at our forces, 30 vehicles which were confiscated. The IDF is not going to go in every night to confiscate these one by one.”
In his opinion, the only option is a widescale military operation. Regarding the current situation, he said, “I think that people have lost their fear in northern Samaria, and they fire freely on IDF soldiers. We need to also carry out targeted eliminations – history has proven that more than once, when there was a widescale military operation which dealt a blow to the terror organizations, it helped.”
“Unfortunately I feel embarrassed and I think that we cannot do what we need to do on this issue. I will not be able to remain a member of this coalition, a coalition which does not change its security protocols.
“Yesterday there was a situational assessment with the Prime Minister. I don’t know about [National Security Minister Itamar] Ben Gvir (Otzma Yehudit), but [Finance Minister Bezalel] Smotrich (Religious Zionism) was present and for every one of the questions he had an answer. I assume that at some point we will embark on this operation, and much of it will be thanks to him.”
