Is he smarter than the average bear?
A large bear was filmed hanging from the second-story window of a private home in Steamboat Springs, Colorado.
The video was taken by a neighbor who called the police after realizing that the homeowners were not home.
The beast entered the home through a first-story window it ripped open. Once inside, the bear chowed down on pork chops that had been left out to thaw and raided the snack panty.
“He got his nails in there and just ripped that window right open and got inside and helped himself to my pork chops I had out for dinner that night, got some snacks out of the pantry and knocked over the plants &mdash nothing too crazy,” homeowner Ryan MacFarlane told Fox31.
The animal then entered the master bedroom and somehow locked itself inside. It attempted to leave through the second-story window where it was filmed, but found the window to be too high off the ground and climbed back inside. Police officers called to the scene opened the bedroom door, and the bear proceeded to leave through the same window it originally came through.
MacFarlane said he was expecting to come home to find thousands of dollars in damages, but the bear turned out to be a surprisingly “respectful house guest.”
Though the bear has a brown coat of fur, it is an American black bear. Black bears are the only bears that live in Colorado, and despite their name, can have brown fur. Bears are becoming more active now after spending months in winter hibernation.
