The police in Jerusalem are increasing their level of preparation ahead of the Flag March that will take place on Thursday in the city. A security official said on Tuesday there are currently no significant alerts in the sector.
Israel National News has learned that several MKs and ministers are interested in ascending the Temple Mount on Jerusalem Day and have requested the necessary approvals for this, but it is still unclear whether the approvals will be granted.
According to estimates, about 3,000 people are expected to arrive at the Temple Mount on Thursday, an increase from last year when about 2,700 people arrived at the Temple Mount on Jerusalem Day.
The march will take place, according to the Prime Minister’s orders, along its regular route – including at the Damascus Gate – and according to the police, about 70,000 celebrants are expected to participate, including ministers and members of the Knesset.
The police have identified serious incitement on social media against the Flag March and say that special teams are handling and monitoring the incitement and the instigators and are taking actions against them.
As a lesson that was gleaned from the events during Operation Guardian of the Walls, the police in Jerusalem will be on high alert but will not use forces from other cities and will even increase the forces in the mixed cities, the Negev and the Galilee.
