Haredi MK: ‘We can’t allow dairy prices to rise’

Finance Committee chairman MK Moshe Gafni (United Torah Judaism) responded Tuesday morning to a notice from the Tnuva dairy company that it will raise the price of dairy products which are not price-controlled.
“We in the committee are busy with the State Budget, but all around, the storm is raging,” Gafni said during a Knesset discussion. “The cost of living is soaring, the prices of dairy have risen, and now we hear about the rise in the price of dairy products which are not price-controlled.”
“This is unthinkable, and we cannot allow this to happen. We promised to fight the cost of living, and we will do this in any way possible.”

The cost of price-controlled dairy products was slated to rise 16% at the beginning of May, but negotiations by the Finance Ministry brought the hike down to 9.28%.
On Monday, a source in the food industry told Israel Hayom, “The rise in the price of price-controlled dairy products will likely raise the price of non-price-controlled dairy products later on, since all of the price-controlled products are made from milk. It’s logical that [the price of] these products will also rise, it’s just that no one knows when or by how much, but in my estimation it will happen.”
