Over 100 IAF craft to take part in Independence Day flyover

The IDF is currently completing training and preparations for the Israeli Air Force national flyover that will take place on Wednesday, April 26 2023, during the State of Israel”s 75th Independence Day.

At 08:45 am, there will be a flyover above the President”s Residence in Jerusalem. The flyover aims to salute the 120 soldiers who received the President”s Award for Excellency this year.

Over 100 fighter jets, helicopters, tanker and transport aircraft and RPAs, which will be operated by IAF personnel in active and reserve duty, will take part in the morning’s main flyover. In addition, Israel Police helicopters and firefighting aircraft will also participate as an expression of the cooperation between Israel”s security forces.

This year, on the occasion of Israel”s 75th Independence Day, dozens of pilots from foreign air forces, including those of the United Kingdom, Italy, Germany and the U.S., will take part in the flyover. This represents the cooperation between the countries and their unique relationship with the State of Israel. The foreign aircraft will fly through Israel”s sky, some of them accompanied by IAF aircraft. This is another expression of the cooperation and close relationship between Israel and the participating countries.

This year’s national flyover is based on the theme “Together All the Way”. The theme puts an emphasis on the varying, diverse groups that make up Israeli society and the shared Israeli story.

This year, the aerobatic team will fly all over the country in a formation of six Beechcraft T-6 Texan II aircraft instead of four and will perform in open bases and central cities.

A number of air shows make this year”s flyover unique: in addition to the traditional performance at the Israeli Air Force Museum, the old timer North American T-6 Texan Aircraft will perform at the Tel Nof Air Force base and in front of the beaches of the city of Tel Aviv. The McDonnell Douglas F-15 Eagle Aircraft will perform an airshow that simulates an aerial battle, and, for the first time, the F-35I “Adir” Aircraft will also take part in the flyover.

This year, for the first time, the Israeli Ground Forces will conduct a unique presentation in honor of Israel”s 75th Independence Day. State-of-the-art Merkava Mk. 4 tanks will display shapes of Israel”s national symbols and the show will be led by soldiers and commanders from the Armored Corps.

For the convenience of Israeli civilians, an application developed by the IAF”s technological unit, “Ofek”, was launched. The application will provide an optimal aircraft viewing experience by marking the Aircraft”s routes and showing their locations in real time.

Flying drones and other small aircraft in the area of the flyover is prohibited. Doing so poses a danger to the aircraft participating in the flyover and to the public watching it.

The national flyover will be broadcast live on the IDF website and on the Israeli Air Force website.
