This Holocaust Remembrance Day, the March of the Living marks 35 years since its founding, becoming one of the main events of Holocaust and Heroism Remembrance Day.
For the first time in three years, the march is taking place in its full format, with delegations from over 25 countries. The march will be held under the theme of “Jewish heroism during the Holocaust and the human spirit,” and will commemorate 80 years since the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising.
This year, the march is led by 40 Holocaust survivors from Israel and around the world, along with Israel’s Minister of Education Yoav Gallant, Chairman of the Jewish Agency for Israel Doron Almog, Chairman of the KKL-JNF Yehiel Leket, US Ambassador to Israel Thomas Nides, and former Ambassador David Friedman.
To date, more than 300,000 participants from dozens of countries have walked along the railway tracks from Auschwitz to Birkenau as a tribute to the greatest loss in the history of the Jewish people. For thousands of Jewish youth from around the world who participate in the educational program, the march itself is just one event in a long journey that culminates in the Independence Day march in Jerusalem.
