Israeli Foreign Minister heads to Azerbaijan

Foreign Minister Eli Cohen on Tuesday left Israel on a diplomatic trip to Azerbaijan, a Shiite Muslim country which is also a key country in the global energy industry.
Cohen is expected to meet Azerbaijan’s President Ilham Aliyev, as well as the country’s Foreign and Economy ministers.
The officials are expected to discuss the improving relationship between the two countries in the fields of regional security, economy, energy, education, academia, culture and sports, and more.

Azerbaijan, which last month appointed a permanent ambassador to Israel, is the only Shiite country to have an embassy in the Jewish state.
Cohen will also head the Israeli delegation to the Israeli-Azerbaijan committee meeting, and he will head a business delegation including 20 Israeli companies from various fields. The delegation will hold dozens of meetings with companies and government organizations in Azerbaijan.
