Police in Malta have filed a report against the author of a revisionist autobiography of Adolf Hitler that attempts to rehabilitate the image of the Nazi leader, according to the Times of Malta.
Ronald Bugeja, described in media reports as a “Nazi prison guard,” was featured in an interview by Malta”s national broadcaster TVM promoting the book, “Mein Führer Adolf Hitler – L-Istorja u l-Bijografija” (My Führer Adolf Hitler – History and Biography).
The segment led to widespread condemnation, with the broadcaster blasted for allowing the author to say on television that he strove to find out if there was anything positive about Hitler and then claiming that the Nazi leader did not know about the genocidal measures the Nazis enacted during the Holocaust.
Bugeja also said that Nazi atrocities were a reaction to Jews and communists who had “broken” Germany.
The Jewish community of Malta reacted with outrage over the interview, with a member filing a police report against Bugeja for inciting racism and Nazism, the report said.
After the barrage of criticism, TVM subsequently deleted the episode of the interview show hosted by John Demanuele. Demanuele also apologized “to those who felt offended” by the interview: “I apologize and I hope that we will not have episodes like this one in the future.”
