State Attorney Amit Aisman has decided to accept the recommendation of the Department of Internal Police Investigations to close the case against two police officers who were involved in a shooting incident on the Temple Mount about two weeks ago due to the absence of a crime.
A terrorist had approached policemen stationed near the Temple Mount’s Chain Gate and attempted to grab one of the officers’ weapons. He fired two bullets before the police shot and neutralized him.
The police did not have time to activate their body cameras and a police investigation revealed that the incident took place in a “dead area”, which is not covered by any security cameras.
The Department of Internal Police Investigations launched an investigation into the incident as soon as the report on the attack was received. A comprehensive investigation was carried out, including the questioning of the officers involved, witnesses, and forensic analysis.
The evidence gathered supported the police’s version of the incident in which the terrorist was shot only after he had grabbed an officer’s gun and fired it at the police, and therefore the officers acted in self-defense and no crime was committed except by the terrorist.
As a result, the case against the officers will be closed.
