Twitter CEO Elon Musk revealed in an interview with the BBC today (Wednesday) that he did not want to purchase the social media company last year.
“The pain level has been extremely high, this hasn’t been some kind of party,” Musk said when asked if he regrets having bought Twitter in October 2022.
He said that his time as CEO of the company has “not been boring. It’s been quite a rollercoaster,” adding that he has experienced “really quite a stressful situation over the last several months.”
Still, he said that “buying the company was the right thing to do. Things are going reasonably well, Twitter usage is growing and the site works.”
The second-richest man in the world said that he sometimes sleeps in the Twitter offices.
Musk admitted to “shooting myself in the foot” with several of his tweets since he purchased the company, adding that he should not be tweeting after 3 am.
He said that the company was currently just about breaking even. When asked about his decision to greatly reduce the number of employees from about 8,000 to just 1,500, Musk said that all of Twitter’s employees would become unemployed if the company went under.
Last year, Musk bought Twitter for a historic $44 billion after purchasing a stake in the company.
