The Degel HaTorah faction of the haredi United Torah Judaism party is furious with the budget which the government passed on Friday, the party’s Yated Neeman website reported.
According to the report, Degel HaTorah is accusing Prime Minister Netanyahu of ignoring the issues which were part of the coalition agreement between Degeal HoTorah and the Likud party in the state budget for 2023 and 2024.
“The budget includes a considerable and significant improvement in a number of important issues, but some issues that were signed and promised in the coalition agreements have not yet been addressed,” the party said.
Among the outstanding issues are the budget for haredi educational institutions which are exempt from teaching the core curriculum such as math, science, and English, a full study comparing the budgets of haredi and non-haredi educational institutions, the budget for public transportation in haredi neighborhoods and towns, and more.
The party stated that these issues “were specifically agreed upon before the government meeting with the prime minister, but Netanyahu ignored [the agreement] and did not bring it to the government meeting and they were not included in the approved budget.”
It was also reported that the Degel HaTorah faction is slated to hold a consultation and establish a team to examine the coalition agreements and demand their implementation.
On Friday, the government ministers approved the Finance Ministry’s proposed budget for the next two years, according to which the state budget for 2023 will be about 484 billion shekels and in 2024 about 513 billion shekels.
The budget will include the funding for free education from the age of two and up. The Prime Minister’s Office stated that this is the first step towards fulfilling the Likud’s campaign promise of free education from the ages of 0 to three. The education budget, which will be 84 billion shekels, will be the largest in Israeli history.
