Defense Minister Yoav Gallant called on Israeli settlers not to take the law into their own hands amidst riots in Arab cities and towns in Judea and Samaria following the murder of four civilians in a terrorist shooting attack near Eli yesterday.
“I want to take this opportunity to call on my brothers, the settlers, please don”t take the law into your hands, let the IDF do what it knows how to do best &mdash to safeguard your security,” Gallant said after the initial probe of yesterday’s attack was completed.
Two terrorists pulled up in a vehicle and opened fire at a gas station and hummus restaurant near the town of Eli in Binyamin Tuesday afternoon. Four people were killed, including a 15-year-old boy and a 17-year-old boy.
One terrorist was shot and killed by a civilian at the scene. The second terrorist escaped in a stolen car before being located and eliminated by security forces two hours later.
Hundreds of Israelis protested in Judea and Samaria following the murders, with a number of protests reportedly turning into riots. Last night, footage posted to social media showed an IDF soldier using live fire from his gun to disperse Jewish protestors at the Bayt Furik junction near Shechem.
Groups of Israeli youth reportedly entered Palestinian Authority cities and torched vehicles, shops, and homes, as well as burned agricultural areas in the surrounding countryside.
The mayor of Turmus Aya, a Palestinian Authority city approximately a kilometer from the scene of the attack, claimed that a group of approximately one hundred fifty Israeli youths entered the city and burned sixty cars and thirty homes.
The Palestinian Authority also claimed that an Arab man died during the riots in Tumus Ayya. The circumstances of the death are unclear.
