Amb. Erdan: UN must condemn PA, terrorism after Eli attack

Following the deadly terror attack yesterday in which four Israelis were murdered in the Binyamin Region, Israel”s Ambassador to the United Nations Gilad Erdan sent an urgent letter to the UN Security Council demanding strong condemnation of Palestinian terrorism, the Palestinian Authority, and for the Council to make Palestinian terror the primary focus of the upcoming Council debate on the Middle East.
In the letter, Ambassador Erdan detailed the sharp increase in the number of terror attacks since the beginning of 2023, noting that thousands of attacks have taken place so far including 152 shooting attacks which have led to the murder of 29 victims and hundreds wounded.
Ambassador Erdan wrote, “These heinous attacks are a direct result of deliberate incitement by Palestinian terror organizations, as well as the Palestinian Authority, which continues to finance the salaries of murderers and their families through the Palestinian Authority”s despicable “Pay for Slay” policy, which stands in clear contravention of international law concerning the financing of terrorism. The Palestinian Authority”s continued encouragement of terror is appalling.”
The Ambassador also called on the Council to, “&hellipmake a clear distinction between a democracy neutralizing terrorists, and the vicious terror organizations targeting innocent civilians. Any such comparison is immoral and false.”

Yesterday, Erdan took UN Special Coordinator for the Middle East Peace Process Tor Wennesland to task for his response to the attack in Binyamin.
“Deeply alarmed by the continuing cycle of violence & appalled by the continued loss of civilian lives. I strongly condemn today”s shooting attack by a Palestinian perpetrator(s) in the occupied West Bank which resulted in the killing of four Israelis,” Wennesland wrote on Twitter, adding: “I urge all sides to refrain from steps that could further enflame an already volatile situation.”
Erdan responded to Wennesland: “The UN”s empty condemnations mean nothing. The UN”s representatives make immoral and false comparisons between a democracy neutralizing terrorists posing imminent threats and vicious terrorists targeting innocent civilians. Calling it a “cycle of violence” only gives a green light for the terrorists to continue.”
