Two IDF reservists were lightly injured in a terrorist ramming attack in Samaria this evening (Monday).
Two terrorists struck the soldiers with a vehicle near the settlement of Shaked in northern Samaria while they were on patrol.
IDF forces responded by opening fire at the terrorists and neutralized them. The injured soldiers were taken to Hillel Yaffe Hospital in Hadera.
Monday’s ramming attack comes as the Military Court sentenced Alaa Kabha, the assailant who carried out the ramming attack that killed the late CPT Ziv Daus and SGT Nathaniel Kahalani and severely injured two other soldiers on the 16th of May, 2018. Kabha was convicted following a lengthy trial for two offenses of intentionally causing death (equivalent to the crime of murder in Judea and Samaria) and two offenses of attempting to intentionally cause death.
After hearing the arguments of both parties regarding the sentencing, the Military Court sentenced the defendant to two life sentences and another 50 years in prison. In addition, the defendant will pay compensation to the victims of his crimes in the total amount of 3 million NIS. In doing so, the Military Court accepted the Military Prosecution”s appeal regarding the defendant’s sentence.
As part of the sentencing, the Military Court determined, in accordance with the Military Prosecution”s position, that the defendant deliberately ran over the soldiers with the aim of causing their deaths, and rejected the defendant”s version that it was a car accident.
The Military Court ruled that the Military Prosecution proved the facts in the indictment, according to which the defendant drove by the soldiers and decided to run them over in order to kill them. The defendant returned and drove toward the soldiers at a speed of approx. 70 km/h until he hit them. As a result, the late CPT Ziv Daus and the late SGT Nathaniel Kahalani were killed, and two other soldiers were seriously injured.
The Military Prosecution is in contact with the families of the late CPT Daus and SGT Kahalani, notifying them of the case advancements and providing them with all the rights they are lawfully entitled to. The IDF sends its condolences to the bereaved families and will continue to accompany them.
