Unusual incident: Eight people were injured, including a girl in serious condition and two people in their 20s in moderate condition, in an accident that occurred overnight Wednesday on Highway 60 near Kochav Yaakov, during a police pursuit of suspected thieves.
The police stated that “a short time ago, patrol officers from the Ma’ale Adumim station identified a vehicle carrying a motorcycle suspected of being stolen and called on the driver to stop. In response, the driver of the vehicle began to accelerate in an attempt to flee from the officers.”
The statement added that the police began pursuing the fleeing vehicle, during which a collision occurred between the police vehicle and a civilian vehicle and, as a result, several of the passengers in the vehicle were injured. Two police officers suffered light injuries as well.
Magen David Adom reported that medics and paramedics provided treatment to an eight-year-old girl in serious condition, two people with moderate injuries, including a 20-year-old woman a 20-year-old man, and three people with light injuries.
The victims were taken to Shaare Zedek and Hadassah Mount Scopus hospitals in Jerusalem.
Additional police forces who were called to the incident managed to arrest the two suspects from the fleeing vehicle and they were brought for questioning.
Police are continuing to investigate the circumstances of the accident.
