Avigdor Liberman: ‘Expect agreement on judicial reform – this week’

MK Avigdor Liberman, who heads the Yisrael Beytenu party, claimed that the coalition and opposition have already reached an agreement on the proposed judicial reform, and that he expects that details will be published later this week.
Speaking at a party meeting, Liberman said, “The expected agreement in the President’s Residence, in my estimation, will be published immediately after the appointment of the Judicial Selection Committee on Wednesday, after [MK] Karin Elharrar (Yesh Atid) is elected to be a member of the committee. I believe that both of the sides will announce that they have reached an agreement.”
“This agreement is bad for the State of Israel,” Liberman claimed. “There is a smokescreen and they are speaking of reasonability and of legal advisers, but the heart of the agreement is the return of [Shas chief Aryeh] Deri to the government, with the support of [MK Benny] Gantz (National Unity) and [MK Yair] Lapid (Yesh Atid). I really hope that they recover and don’t lend a hand to this, because the moment Deri returns to the Netanyahu government, it gives significant support to Netanyahu’s haredi-messianic coalition.”

“More than that, we know that this coalition has succeeded, within about five-and-a-half months, in causing great damage to the State of Israel. The expected agreement, which advances Deri’s return, essentially stabilizes the coalition and it may be that because of this agreement, this coalition will last four years.”
Claiming that the rise in the cost of living, the Iranian threat, and the issue of increased violence are all results of the new government – even though none of them are new issues – Liberman promised, “I, personally, intend to do everything in order to prevent this. I intend to meet this week with the President, with the chief of National Unity, Benny Gantz, and with Yesh Atid chief Yair Lapid, and to speak with them about this issue, and to do everything in order that this agreement not become reality.”
Although Liberman said last week that his party would join a Netanyahu-led government, so long as it did not include “haredim” or “messianics,” Liberman said Monday that, “There is no chance that we will be part of a Netanyahu coalition. The sky will fall on the earth before that happens.”
