Israel, US, Cyprus and France to hold disaster preparedness event at the UN

The Permanent Mission of Israel to the United Nations, led by Ambassador Gilad Erdan, will hold a side event tomorrow for the High-Level Meeting on the Midterm Review of the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction in cooperation with Israel”s National Emergency Management Authority, the U.S. Federal Emergency Management Agency, and the UN Missions of the United States, Cyprus and France. The purpose of the event is to create regional partnerships as well as to share knowledge with the aim of helping countries and international institutions prepare and improve their preparedness systems to reduce risks from disasters as well as strengthen the national resilience of countries.
Ambassador Erdan will speak at the event after which there will be a panel of experts and senior officials in the field. The event will be attended by UN ambassadors, senior diplomats, and delegations of experts from Israel, the U.S. and the European Union.
In advance of the event, Ambassador Erdan said, “Israel is always among the first to arrive and help in any disaster area. This year we operated in Ukraine, Turkey and other places. Our unique experience and extensive knowledge in dealing with emergency situations can help many countries save lives. We initiated the event at the United Nations to present the unique capabilities we possess in this important field and also to strengthen cooperation with many other countries.”
