A British Airways flight to Israel turned around and returned to London last night (Tuesday) over fears of rocket attacks on Tel Aviv as Operation Shield and Arrow got underway.
The plane changed course at about 9 pm and landed in Athens for refueling. Afterwards, the plane was flown back to London.
Passengers were told that the reason for the turnaround was the security situation in Israel, which was preparing for a conflict with terrorist organizations in Gaza following the assassination of three leaders of the Islamic Jihad terror group.
The passengers were on the plane for 12 hours due to the flight’s diversion and return to London.
This afternoon (Wednesday), terrorists launched rockets at Tel Aviv as part of a barrage of over 100 rockets which were fired at Israel over the course of one hour.
The Airports Authority reported that Ben Gurion Airport was operating as usual despite the rocket fire and that the Air Force was coordinating the flight paths of incoming and outgoing planes.
Another British Airways plane was diverted to Cyprus this afternoon.
