Israeli consulate holds Memorial Day ceremony at Reform temple

The Israeli Consulate in New York City held its official Memorial Day ceremony last week at the Reform Temple Emanu-El in Manhattan.
The ceremony was led by outgoing Consul General Asaf Zamir, who recently resigned in protest of Israeli domestic policy, and Channel 13 US correspondent Neria Kraus.
Kraus wrote on social media following the ceremony: “I was very moved to lead the Israeli Consulate in New York’s official Memorial Day ceremony at the Temple Emanu-El synagogue.
Far from home in Israel, bereaved families came to speak, to honor, remember, and remind us of their sons and daughters who fell in battle, during their military service, or were murdered in terror attacks. We hugged, we sang Hatikva together. May their memories be blessed.”

Temple Emanu-El, on 65th St. and 5th Ave. in New York City, is considered one of the most famous Reform temples in the world. It was built by the city’s reform community, which was founded in 1845.
