Former Finance Minister Avigdor Liberman, who heads the Yisrael Beytenu party, spoke at a protest in Be’er Sheva, calling for an end to the negotiations on the proposed judicial reform.
The National Unity and Yesh Atid parties are currently holding negotiations with the coalition regarding the exact details of the judicial reform, in the hopes of creating something that will appeal to as much of the Israeli populace as possible.
Speaking at the protest, Liberman said, “On Thursday we saw representatives from the coalition continuing to incite and divide the people. They continue attacking, and clarify that the ‘negotiations’ are a ceremonial exercise only.”
“I call to [MK Benny] Gantz (National Unity) and [MK Yair] Lapid (Yesh Atid): Announce immediately that you are ending all negotiations with the Netanyahu government. Any compromise gives the other side a goal, from the perspective of the opposition, and provides support to the messianic government.”
On Friday, Culture and Sport Minister Miki Zohar (Likud) warned that if negotiations fail, the coalition parties will push the judicial reform forward unilaterally.
“The reform is not intended to harm anything, but only to do good for the State of Israel,” stated Zohar. “It must happen, the right-wing public was promised a reform and that’s what they want.”
“If we do not promote the reform, we will have lost our public, and if we continue without agreements, we will lose the other side who will continue the protest.
“We will promote the reform unilaterally if we do not reach agreements.”
