About a month after the start of the talks at the President’s Residence regarding a compromise on the government”s judicial reform, the negotiating teams of the coalition and the opposition have reached an agreement on one issue, Kan 11 News reported on Wednesday.
According to the report, the sides agreed that Basic Laws will pass in a fourth reading with a large majority.
At the same time, aides to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu say he wishes to pass the budget before moving on to any other legislation, including the judicial reform as well as the Draft Law and the Torah Study Law. In any case, no legislation related to the judicial reform will be attempted to be brought for approval in the coming month.
The National Unity Party, headed by MK Benny Gantz, denied the report that an agreement had been reached in the talks at the President’s Residence.
“Unfortunately, there is no agreement on the passing of Basic Laws and as a general rule, there will be no agreement until the issue of the Judicial Selection Committee is settled,” the party said.
