Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich (Religious Zionism) on Thursday blamed his predecessor for the rise in the price of dairy products, which will take effect next week.
“Following an agreement which [then-Finance Minister Avigdor] Liberman signed in the previous government, the price of price-controlled dairy products is supposed to rise automatically by 16% at the beginning of next month,” Smotrich wrote.
“We will not allow this to happen,” he promised.
“In the last few weeks, professionals in the Finance Ministry and I myself have been examining a number of ways to reduce the rise and to put together solutions which will lighten the load on the public and make up for the inflexibility and irresponsibility of [former Prime Minister Yair] Lapid and Liberman.”
Earlier this week, Israel Hayom noted that efforts thus far on the part of the Finance Ministry to stem the price hike and reach agreements with dairy farmers have not yielded results. Efforts on the part of the Ministry are expected to take at least several weeks, before consumers can expect to see the results.
