Rabbi Leo Dee, the husband of Lucy Dee and the father of Maia and Rina Dee, who were murdered in a terrorist shooting attack in the Jordan Valley during Passover, has been selected to recite the Yizkor memorial prayer at the official State ceremony marking the transition from Israel’s Memorial Day to Israel’s 75th Independence Day on Tuesday night.
The decision to have Rabbi Dee recite the prayer was made at the last minute by Transportation Minister Miri Regev following the murders which shocked the nation two weeks ago.
Rabbi Dee, a dual British and Israeli citizen, moved the country when he called for the Israeli flag to be shared on social media in memory of his daughters and wife. The Dee family decided to donate Lucy’s organs, saving and improving the lives of five people.
“I have faith, I have hope, and I believe that the violence is actually caused by a small percentage of the Palestinian population and the vast majority of Palestinians are good people,” Rabbi Dee said.
