Seattle synagogue vandalized ahead of Holocaust Remembrance Day

A Seattle synagogue was vandalized with antisemitic graffiti before the start of Israel”s Holocaust Remembrance Day.
According to the StopAntisemitism NGO, the vandals targeted Temple De Hirsch Sinai Reform synagogue “moments prior to Holocaust Remembrance Day starting.”
“We must strengthen our laws to ensure the horrors of the past do not become the norm of today,” StopAntisemitism said on Twitter.

The Reform synagogue was also similarly vandalized in 2017. Members of the congregation told KIRO7 that there have been other less severe incidents since then.
Stephen Paolini, the associate director for the Anti-Defamation League, told the news outlet that the antisemitic vandalism is part of an increasing trend of anti-Israel activists attacking Jewish institutions.

“What we”re concerned with is when they then hold a Jewish institution, a Jewish community or Jewish person here in the city of Seattle somehow accountable to the actions of a government thousands of miles away,” Paolini said.
He noted that the vandals defaced the building before the start of Holocaust Remembrance Day.
“It”s really attempting to turn a time of deep remembrance and observance into one of fear and uncertainty,” he said.
