Israel marks Holocaust Remembrance Day

Israelis across the country stood silent for two minutes as the annual Holocaust Remembrance Day siren was sounded Tuesday morning at 10:00.
Following the siren, President Isaac Herzog, Knesset Speaker Amir Ohana, Supreme Court president Esther Hayut, members of the international diplomatic corps, as well as Holocaust survivors will gather at the Yad Vashem Holocaust museum”s Hall of Remembrance in Jerusalem for the wreath-laying ceremony.
At 11:00, the Knesset will host the Holocaust Memorial Day state ceremony in the Chagall State Hall, under this year”s theme of “Unto Every Person There is a Name,” with the recitation of Holocaust victims” names by members of the public.
From 11:00 to 4:30, the Yad Vashem Holocaust museum will host a memorial candle lighting ceremony, with the public invited to light a memorial candle bearing the identity of a Holocaust victim at the Warsaw Ghetto Square.
The main Yad Vashem memorial ceremony will take place at 1:00 p.m.
At 5:30 p.m. a youth movement ceremony is slated, featuring Ministry of Education Director-General Assaf Tsalel, CEO of Yad Vashem Brig. Gen. (res.) Tzvika Fayirizen and hundreds of participants of the various national youth movements.
Holocaust survivor Yakov Strutz, born 1927 in Lutzik, Poland, will light the Memorial Torch, accompanied by youth movement members. Joy Reiger will emcee the ceremony. Israeli singer Eden Chason will perform at the ceremony along with the Youth Movement Choir under the musical direction of Moishele Yosef. The ceremony will be conducted in cooperation with the Ministry of Education”s Youth and Social Administration and the Youth Movement Council &mdash Valley of the Communities.
