The IDF presented today (Tuesday) its new service model, which according to military officials was supposed to be presented in about two months, but which was published now in light of the instructions of the Supreme Court and the expected passage of the new Draft Law when the Knesset returns from its current recess.
Under to the new model, all enlisted soldiers will serve for a minimum of 24 months, while soldiers who serve in essential positions will serve for up to 36 months and receive a higher salary for the additional months of service.
The IDF also announced that its attempt to integrate haredi soldiers into the military has failed, but it will continue to send enlistment letters to haredi youths when they turn 18-years-old and to provide special enlistment routes for prospective haredi soldiers, even if the Knesset passes legislation enshrining the haredi exemptions from military service into law.
