Former Finance Minister Avigdor Liberman (Yisrael Beytenu) has said that there will be no agreements on the Draft Law.
Speaking to 103 FM Radio, Liberman said, “I have never heard such a thing, that the IDF supports a law to get out of serving. This is extremely serious.”
He added, “There is no possibility of reaching an agreement with the businessmen of Shas and United Torah Judaism regarding the Draft Law. Therefore, we must work in the most massive and unyielding way, and pass a law which requires all 18-year-olds – Jewish, Muslim, Christian, Druze, or Circassians – to enlist in the IDF or perform National Service.”

The Israeli government is discussing the passage of a new Draft Law, which would be legislated as a temporary law and which would lower the age of exemptions for haredim to 21.
Under the new law, the minimum mandatory service period would also be shortened, while creating incentives for soldiers in key positions to remain on for longer.
The plan would resolve long-standing issues regarding Israel”s draft law, after the Supreme Court repeatedly struck down amendments enshrining draft deferments for yeshiva students, while leaving blanket exemptions for most of the Arab sector in place.
