A multiple-vehicle accident involving 14 vehicles occurred overnight Wednesday on the Jerusalem-Tel Aviv highway near the Anava junction due to ice that gathered on the road and caused vehicles to skid. Over the past few days, Israel has experienced unseasonal winter weather, with cold air, wind, rain, and even hail.
A large force of rescue workers who arrived at the scene began assisting the victims, several of which were trapped in their vehicles. In all, 35 victims were taken from the scene in light condition.
Israel Fire and Rescue Services firefighter Hezki Rottner told Israel National News: I was on the other side of the road, and I saw the accident. I was one of the first at the scene, and I pulled five people out of their cars. By a miracle, all of the victims were taken to the hospital in light condition. It could have ended with a serious tragedy.
