Multiple people shot outside Washington DC funeral home, at least 1 dead

A mass shooting outside a Washington DC funeral home on Tuesday left at least one victim dead and four other people with gunshot injuries, police said.
Officers at the scene found multiple people shot, Fox News reported.
DC Police Chief Robert Contee told reporters that they believe the individuals, who were attending a funeral, were targeted but did not elaborate.
“Our member went to the aid of several people,” Contee said.
He described the victims as adults. The survivors were taken to the hospital and did not receive life threatening injuries.
“At this point, the Metropolitan Police Department is asking for the community’s help,” Contee said. “At this point, it appears that several people who were in the block were specifically targeted. We’re unsure why that is. We’re unsure why these people were targeted, more or less why they were targeted at a funeral. We don’t understand that. We’re looking for the community’s help.”

As of Tuesday afternoon, the gunman was still at large.
“We have not identified a gunman. But it appears that the individuals who were standing in the block were targeted for some reason. And that reason we’re not sure,” Contee added.
He added that the incident was not a two-way exchange of gunfire.
“It does not appear that it was an exchange of gunfire. It appears that these four people were near the sidewalk here, were struck by gunfire coming from a suspect or suspects,” he said.
“Again, the funeral ended. People were milling about when this shooting happened. And we’re trying to find out who fired the shots at the end of the funeral.”
