Jewish communities around the world celebrated the holiday of Purim, including the Jewish community of Iran, formerly Persia.
The Purim celebrations were once again led this year by the Chief Rabbi of Iran, Rabbi Yehuda Gerami.
The Twitter page of the Alliance Rabbis Islamic States posted a video showing Jews in Tehran singing their version of the Shoshanat Yaakov prayer, which is sung at the conclusion of the reading of the Book of Esther.
The Jewish community in Iran, numbering about 8,000, lives in the country in the shadow of fear of harassment or accusations of espionage.
While Iranian leaders regularly call for Israel”s destruction, the Jewish community there is on good terms with the authorities.
