RFK killer Sirhan Sirhan denied parole for the 16th time

A California review board on Wednesday, for the 16th time, denied parole to Sirhan Sirhan, who is serving a life sentence for assassinating US presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy in 1968, Reuters reported.
Sirhan was denied parole for another three years by a panel of California parole board members, who said he was not suitable for release. The decision marks a change from a different panel’s conclusion two years ago that the 78-year-old should be paroled.
That decision was overruled by California Governor Gavin Newsom and Sirhan sued, saying the governor’s action was illegal. It was not immediately clear what impact Wednesday’s ruling would have on the lawsuit.
Sirhan shot and killed Kennedy on June 5, 1968, at the Ambassador Hotel in Los Angeles, shortly after Kennedy had won California’s Democratic presidential primary.
Sirhan was convicted of first-degree murder in 1969 and sentenced to death. His sentence was reduced to life in prison when California abolished the death penalty in 1972.

A Christian Palestinian Arab, Sirhan said in his confession that he murdered Kennedy because he was angered by the Democratic Senator’s support for the State of Israel.
The slaying took place five years after his brother, President John F. Kennedy, was assassinated.
