National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir participated on Sunday in the conclusion of a seminar involving all the emergency agencies, as part of a week in which emergency situations are being practiced.
He began his remarks by commenting on the terrorist attack in Huwara, in which two brothers, Hillel Menachem Yaniv and Yagel Yaakov Yaniv, were murdered.
“Today we once again witnessed a murderous attack that claimed the lives of innocent victims – the brothers Hillel Menachem Yaniv and Yagel Yaakov Yaniv, may their memory be a blessing. At the beginning of my remarks, I wish to send my condolences to the family and wish to embrace the citizens of Israel. There is nothing more symbolic that precisely on such a day, the Ministerial Committee approved our law, of Otzma Yehudit, the death penalty for terrorists. According to this law, those murderers will not see the light of day. This law is a correct, moral, proper and necessary in order to fight terrorism,” he said.
Ben Gvir added that “the sequence of events illustrates the high importance of continuing to practice and the readiness of the forces for the various terrorist attacks. I hope that the tools we will acquire this week will help us arrive more prepared and determined to face the challenges that lie before us – with an emphasis on improving operational readiness, forming a situational picture and the ability to respond in a short period of time, while ensuring inter-organizational cooperation, and utilizing the relative advantages of each of the entities.”
In closing, the minister commented on the significant addition to the budget of the Ministry of National Security.
“Preparedness cannot be optimal with the lack of manpower in the Israel Police. Last Thursday, the Israeli government succeeded in transferring an unprecedented budget to the Ministry of National Security – great news for the ministry and all Israeli citizens. The budget, which I set as a goal, will allow us to implement my policy in the areas of governance, personal security and restoring peace to the streets.”
